Monsters in My House

CheezWaster, my 2 3/4 year old pistol, lately has been fluttering in and out of his new found world of imagination.  Over the past few weeks, I have fed several laughing dragons pizza during lunch and there now seem to be some pesky monsters living in my house.  Not to mention, that the Chinese warrior statue in our Asian room once spoke to CheezWaster, telling him he was going to catch him.  The laughing dragons are cute.  The monsters and the pedophile Chinese warrior – not so much.  So, I’ve been trying to find some more light-hearted images of monsters.  My husband stumbled upon the Go Away Big Green Monster book at our local Barnes & Noble and it was an instant hit.  I think I must have read it at least 87 times since we bought it on Saturday.  The book is very clever in that it looks like stencils inside and each page in the beginning builds up the Green Monster (who looks much goofier than scary) and the latter pages take it apart as you tell the monster that he doesn’t scare you and needs to go away.  CheezWaster also picked out a hilarious, 3-eyed, blue monster costume for Halloween (pics to follow after Halloween).  It kind of reminds me of Blinky, the 3-eyed fish from the Simpsons:

I’ll continue to indulge his imaginary world, but like I told him last week – if that Chinese Warrior talks to him again or tries to catch him, we’re going to kick his ass…..all the way back to China!

  1. “My Monster Mama Loves Me So” by Laura Leuck is a big hit at our house, if you’re looking for more monster books. It’s a rhyme-y, not too long book about a monster kid and his mom. We also have “That’s Not My Monster”, from the touchy-feely series of “That’s Not My…” books. You’re welcome to check either of them out whenever, although they’re both pretty well loved, so borrowing them might be an issue 🙂
